Celebrating Women’s History Month: The Future is Now
This year, ATL continues to reflect on the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’
As we celebrate Women’s History Month and reflect on the achievements of the remarkable individuals highlighted here, we are reminded of the importance of service and community.
Each story shared embodies a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others, whether through advocacy, mentorship, or empowerment. From Temple Lester’s dedication to inclusivity in STEM to Coach Mackenzi Stewart’s efforts to pioneer girls’ programming, these individuals exemplify Dr. King’s call to action.
Temple Lester ignites a passion for STEM education, ensuring that more girls and minorities have access to opportunities that can shape their futures. Through her work, she not only breaks down barriers but also inspires others to pursue their passions with purpose.
Destyni Parham serves as a beacon of excellence in her community, demonstrating the importance of academic achievement and community service. Her commitment to uplifting others highlights the transformative power of investing in the success of those around us.
Isabella Foster embodies resilience and leadership, paving the way for future generations to thrive. Her involvement in mentorship programs and leadership initiatives showcases the impact of providing support and guidance to young people as they navigate their paths to success.
Ashanti Carter‘s journey from Atlanta to Alabama State University exemplifies the determination and drive of Black youth. As she pursues her dreams of becoming a sports journalist, she reminds us of the importance of providing opportunities for all young people to succeed, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.
Coach Mackenzi Stewart and the Lady Ambassadors are pioneering a new era of girls’ programming, providing opportunities for young girls from underserved communities to thrive. Through their dedication to mentorship and support, they are empowering the next generation of scholars and athletes.
By investing in the future of Black youth and partnering with after-school programs to alleviate structural barriers to success, we are not only shaping the trajectory of individual lives but also building stronger, more resilient communities. Through our collective efforts, we answer Dr. King’s question with purpose and conviction, striving to create a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
As we look to the future, let us remember Dr. King’s words and continue to ask ourselves, “What are we doing for others?” Together, we can work towards a more equitable and inclusive society, where every individual has the chance to fulfill their potential and make a positive impact on the world.
